As you may or may not know, as of March 1st I have officially started my own business. Since I have been a full time entrepreneur for a whole 4 days, I thought I would share an update on what I’ve been up to.

The current state of the YouTalkMedia office.

The first thing to mention is my office, since it is the “featured image” for this post. As you may be able to tell from the photo, it’s a work-in-progress. The original plan was to have the office ready to move into on March 1st; that didn’t happen.

My brother and I decided to buy a building in downtown Penetanguishene where we would open up YouTalkMedia. The plan was for him to live at the back of the building and for us to have our office at the front. Both units needed a lot of work prior to moving in, so prior to renovating the office we renovated an apartment at the rear of the building, It was supposed to be completed in 3 weeks, and ended up taking nearly one and a half months. Because of the delays we faced there, the front office just started yesterday. The good news is at least the back unit looks great.

The next thing to mention is my schedule. I had initially thought my first week wasn’t going to be super busy. Instead, I’ve been working 16 hour days. It’s been great to have the work, but it also means that I haven’t been able to do everything I had hoped to do.

That brings me to my condo in Toronto, which has been sitting empty for a week waiting on me to deliver some materials so that I can have a contractor come in and update it. The initial plan was to get all the supplies on Monday or Tuesday so that I could book in the contractor and have the condo looking great by April. As the week passes by I am beginning to think that it might not get finished until May.

Did I mention that I wanted to start filming some YouTube videos about my journey? So far I have spoken to the camera a few times, and each time I have quickly realized that I have a face for radio and a voice for print. That said, I’m going to continue filming videos that won’t be published until I get over the incredible awkwardness of speaking into my phone. Maybe within a few months there will be something posted to my YouTube account.

Stay tuned, wish me luck, and if you have any advice or general comments please let me know below!
